Wonder Workshop - Topman reissues classic rock t-shirts of the 1970s

Wonder

Topman is reissuing a range of classic 1970s rock t-shirts originally designed by cult 70s fashion label Wonder Workshop.

Working with the original Wonder Workshop designers (John Dove and Molly White) and fashion writer Paul Gorman, these tattoo-inspired t-shirts were first seen on some of the biggest names of the decade - Marc Bolan, Iggy Pop, Mick Jagger and Robert plant were all photographed famously in the t-shirts.

Jazz in '66 t-shirt from Gama Clothing

Jazzin66

Listen. We all like having t-shirt that say cool things on them. In a world full of blokes that have tees that say 'Retro Club' or something South American in a weird 'stressed' print, we need to make our mark... no matter how much we might not mean it.

One t-shirt that I spotted on my internet travels is this dope Jazz In '66 t-shirt on the Gama Clothing website. Basically, if you like jazz, you're cool. It's always been the case. At any rate, jazz musicians look cooler than anyone who ever lived. Seeing as you're probably white and male (sorry, justa hunch about Roulette readers) you won't ever look as hip as Coltrane. So why not get this tee and pay yer dues. Retails at £14.

Bag a Sir Peter Blake limited edition Pop t-shirt

Blake_shirt

Yes, he's one of the world's leading contemporary artists and he's done covers for the likes of Sgt Pepper's and Stanley Road. But the work of Sir Peter Blake is still within your budget - at least this Sir Peter Blake Pop limited edition t-shirt is.

The shirt is great value and a superb design - typical Blake with the bold target and star motifs amongst other imagery, combining to form the word 'Pop' on a grey t-shirt background.

Sold with a certificate and in a gift box in just about every size imaginable, it retails for £29.

Not just official licensed either, officially worn too - New Order's Peter Hook had one on his back during the recent Manchester vs Cancer charity gig. Four designs initially available (including the two above), all with familiar Peter Saville artwork, all limited edition (once they're gone, they're gone) and printed onto 100 per cent cotton shirts.

Waterloo's Robert Crumb-designed Creem t-shirt

Creem Cult artist/illustrator Robert Crumb was paid $50 for the Creem magazine logo. But you can pick up the Waterloo Creem t-shirt for around half that price.

If you didn't know, Creem was a US music monthly, started in 1969 and credited with inventing the terms 'punk rock' and 'heavy metal', as well as giving early exposure to a host of legendary artists, bands and movements including The Stooges, MC5, Roxy Music, David Bowie, punk  and US college rock.

Now defunct - but you can show off your musical knowledge by wearing the t-shirt, available in three colourways as well as male/female sizes and available to pre-order now. It sells for $22.45 (around £12), with shipping from 31st March.

Iggyfront_You're not going to fool anyone into thinking that you're a sexy lady with hardly any clothes on wearing this ace Iggy Pop T-Shirt. Kenny and The Cadets (aka The Beach Boys) t-shirt

KennythecadetsakathebeachboysOkay pedants... Kenny and the Cadets aren't exactly a pseudonym of the Beach Boys... they're very closely linked. Right? Cleared up? Good.

Kenny and the Cadets are a pseudonym of the Beach Boys (ha!) when they had a brief stay at Candix Records. Producer Bruce Morgan had some of the boys doing vocals and such, to a couple of instro tracks. Basically, he hired Brian Wilson to sing... as well as Carl Wilson, Al Jardine... and the Wilson mother. Maybe the dawg too?

Why you hearin' all this? Well, for those of you who want some rock 'n' roll gear that's a little ahead of the pack, you might wanna get this great retro Kenny and the Cadets tee from Worn By (click here to buy). Worn By seems to be a little bit exclusive with t-shirts asking £60, but this one is in the sale at a very reasonable £14. Click here to see the rest of their wares... and don't be put off by a picture of that twat Alex Zane on the frontpage.

Ace Billy Preston Tee!

BillyprestonBilly Preston straddles where no man has really straddled before or since. Wearing a tee that sports the best afro in music history says more about you than merely funkfanboy. Billy played with The Beatles, so you can wear your moptop credentials on your solar plexus... but Billy was also the king of space funk, so this t-shirt could be coupled with Bootsy Collins star shaped sun-glasses... even though you might get a smack in the mouth for your troubles. Also, Billy was a Motown boy, so you could wear it down the Northern Soul all-nighters... but again, some snob in a vest and loons will probably scowl at you and tell you that you don't have the right kind of talcum powder... but fuck all that... this is a great shirt and available from DJTees in 8 different colour combinations for £17.99. Click here to buy.

Paul Frank goes punk with the Anarchy t-shirt

Paulfrank_anarchy You can always rely on Paul Frank for a quirky t-shirt - and our favourite right now is this Paul Frank Anarchy t-shirt.

Alternatively titled Julius and Nancy, it's a walk down the Kings Road in '76, with Julius playing Sid and Nancy playing Nancy in front of a distressed Union Jack and collage-style text, not to mention that all-important anarchy symbol.

You can pick one up online, priced at £25.

Home Taping Is Killing Music (with a twist) tee

YellowcrossbonesOnce upon a time, the world was enamored with the humble cassette. Now, tape is dead and no longer being produced... leaving the iconic Home Taping Is Killing Music logo unloved and on the scrapheap.

Well, the folks at Huskworks have revived the logo with a slight twist. You can get your mitts on this dapper yellow number which has turned the tape into some kind of creature head. Great! There's also a pink one for the ladies and metrosexuals out there. Retailing at $18 and available to buy if you click here. If you prefer to be a purist, you can get a tee with the original logo on by clicking here.

Lambretta's Who clothing range - pictures

Whocloth1

Over at Retro To Go, we mentioned a few weeks back that Lambretta Clothing was issuing an officially-sanctioned range of Who Clothing. Well, that clothing hits the shops in September - and we have images of some of the replica pieces.

There were initially two ranges - Tribute and Iconic - but these have now been merged. But you might have to check out some higher-end stores for the replica clobber, such as the blazer and shirts.

And we haven't prices as yet. But for now, check out some of the items above and over the turn.
