Ok, I'll come clean. This playlist hasn't been compiled by me. It's been compiled by Tara Quinn and was highlighted at Share My Playlists, but as it's so damn good, I decided to give this ATP Bowlie 2 weekender Spotify playlist some love on this site too.

Everything you might expect if you know the people playing there - Belle and Sebastian, Julian Cope, Isobel Campbell and Mark Laenegan, The Zombies, Teenage Fanclub, Edwyn Collins etc etc.

You may have caught this on our Modculture site last week. If not, let me acquaint you with the Humble Hammond.

It's a celebration of many who have used the creation of Laurens Hammond for the good of popular music, from the 60s to (more or less) the present day, but missing out the prog and metal bands naturally. So Jimmy Smith, Jimmy McGriff, Wynder K. Frog and the Small Faces through to The Charlatans, The Bamboos and Lefties Soul Connection in just over 20 tracks.

Check it out now. It's gotta be better than Radio 1.

What do you get if you cross jazz with hippies, psychedelia, throwing in a touch of experimentation and a drop of funk along the way? You get something like this Swirly Jazz playlist, the work of Slim Jenkins and available to hear right now if you have Spotify to hand.

Yes, it's jazz from the late 60s and early 70s. Sometimes not obviously so (the likes of Soft Machine and Brian Auger are here) but all have an unmistakably jazzy, psychy vibe. Perfect for kicking back, freaking out or whatever takes your fancy.

Go on, set your mind free for an hour or so.

Ok, seeing as there's a collective dark mood over the English part of the UK, here's a Spotify playlist to go with it - old school goth.

Yes, this is goth before it became 'hip' for today's young miserablists. It's the sound of dark and miserable Leeds in the 1980s. Except it's not that miserable - the playlist has Caterpillar by The Cure in it, a jolly old tune if ever there was one.

Anyway, 20 tracks from across that particular spectrum - enjoy. If that's the right word.
