File sharing court case may get retrial
If you read various blogs and websites today, you'll see that most of them think it's okay to illegally download music. I'm not sure why. If everyone stole records, then there would be no need to hang around waiting for bozo writer reviews would there? No, it strikes me that the blogs want to appear like 'they're one of the fans', not like those big nasty magazines who side with the recording industry and all their sponsorship. Before I start ranting, you can have out thoughts on the illegal download thing by clicking here and here.
Anyway, all this talk of downloads is in the fore thanks to Jammie Thomas. Remember? In a federal courtroom in Duluth, Minnesota, Jammie was accused of using KaZaA to download and offer for distribution almost 2000 songs. She was in one corner, and in the other, the Legion of Doom tag team (or EMI, Sony BMG, Interscope Records and Warner. This was a case of copyright infringement based on the premise that offering these files through KaZaA, Jammie was distributing the music and they felt that was illegal. She lost... however...

Reggae can be a dodgy place to visit. For every great Dr Alimantado record, you can land square in a rotten Trojan cover of John Denver. Yes, it does exist ("taaake me hooome..."). So, if you don't have someone to call on for tips or a record shop that doesn't wanna play ball, you really need to pay

Everyone seems to think that Gnarls Barkley are really, like, totally, like, weird 'n' stuff. I don't. I just think they're a pop band that do things the way they should be done... with a bit of inventiveness. If they don't get bored, they make more records. Easy. In fairness, I'm not really into their records, but that shouldn't stop you from liking them. I dare say it doesn't. Anyway, I've got some news about 'em. They're giving their new album away for free.

I'm gonna keep this short and sweet because, if you're anything like me, you'll be more interested in listening to new Portishead tracks, taken from their new LP, '3', than listening to me jabber on. First the tunes... then some news...
Do you still care about the B-52s? Do you?
"...It's, like, totally amazing, like, Radiohead, like, giving away their music, like, it's totally inspiring..."
Sick of humping a boombox around on your shoulder? Your walkman need the heads cleaning? Well, why not build your morale with some snotty, hip shakin', sleazoid garage and go-go? Hmmm? Sound good? 'But where am I gonna find this suave shit?'

I'll keep this sweet.
I dunno whut it is, but Bob Dylan and Patti Smith share more than a miserable pair o'faces and a wicked turn of phrase. When Dylan lost it, the flame of rock 'n' roll poet was passed to Patti... which is why it makes loadsa sense that a series of free (and official)
MySpace claims its new Earwig TV channel is 'set to be THE place to discover the next Kate Nash or Enter Shikari'. But they miss one obvious point - it is us the user that made those acts, not a committee of so-called experts.

The Sub Pop record label has been long loved by many record collectors and indie fans. Their back catalogue is wonderfully patchy and obscure, and includes everyone from Bonnie Prince Billy, to Nirvana, to, The Shins to Billy Childish, to Flight of the Conchords. I could go on and on. Well, for those of you who have been scurrying around looking for Sup Pop 100 on original vinyl... you might want to try out the online music store they've just set up.
Here at ElectricRoulette, there is nothing we like better than unearthing sites that give you the chance to listen to weird and wonderful sound. The latest we've stumbled across is the fantastic Planet Mondo - Atomic Blog, which features ear frazzling hammonds that take a trip into psychedelic space.
I'm sure that you're all pretty sick of hearing about Led Zep and their reunion... so this might be the last bit of news we tell you about (although it is hard to resist when finding out these little morsels). Basically, chances are, you haven't got a ticket for the Led Zeppelin show. Don't worry, you're not alone. Neither have we. However, you will be able to hear the show on the airwaves, as well as some vintage live songs thanks to Planet Rock.
Bored of the original Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album? Well, how about The Beatles' classic mashed up?
There were a few downsides to BBC 6music's Trojan Weekend - firstly, it was on at the weekend (when many of us are out), secondly, it was only available to digital radio owners and thirdly, was only available to UK residents who own one.
