Coming soon: Derailed Sense – a feature-length film about Subway Sect
There’s a documentary doing the rounds right now about Lawrence of Felt. But very soon, there will be a documentary about Vic Godard, the man who inspired Lawrence. It’s called Derailed Sense.
The documentary is about a truly cult artist (Vic Godard) and band (Subway Sect), influential in punk’s formative years, before leaving (Godard, that is) to become a postman. Graham Bendel (director of Billy Childish is Dead) has just completed the feature-length film, which features the likes of Irvine Welsh, Edwyn Collins, writer Jonathan Coe, Bobby Gillespie, Luke Haines plus many more. That gives you an idea of just how influential the band were and are.
Downside? Seeing it isn’t the easiest of things. The film will receive a screening at the Raindance Film Festival in London on Thursday Oct 4th 2012, which is described as ‘possibly the one and only UK screening ever’. Hopefully that’s not the case.
But get there, if that happens to be true. More on Raindance here.
