Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore split up - we all lose surrogate cool parents
It was the couple you all wanted your parents to be like. But the dream is over as Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore have announced a marriage split. Hang on…band split too…surely not?
At least we hope not. The official statement, reported yesterday via Matador records simply said 27 years (yes, really) of marriage was over, but added plans for the band are 'uncertain'. Well, you wouldn't want to be hanging round your ex in a record studio for three months if things aren't good, would you?
That statement read: 'Musicians Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore, married in 1984, are announcing that they have separated. Sonic Youth, with both Kim and Thurston involved, will proceed with its South American tour dates in November. Plans beyond that tour are uncertain. The couple has requested respect for their personal privacy and does not wish to issue further comment.'
Gigs are scheduled for South America later this year, which could be the last (although we sincerely doubt it). In the meantime, let's remember the good times…
