Heard of Garageband? It's a music creation program for the Apple Mac - and whilst on tour with Teenage Fanclub, drummer Francis MacDonald recorded an entire instrumental album with it. He's released it too - and it's free for one week only.
After this week, the man who also manages Camera Obscura, Attic Lights and The Vaselines, runs Shoeshine Records/Spit & Polish and was once a member of BMX Bandits will be selling it, so you might want to get onto this before 28th March.
Maculate Conceptions was written and recorded in the back of a tour bus and in various hotel rooms throughout Europe whilst on tour with Teenage Fanclub in November/December 2010. Says the man: 'I love classic 50s/60s pop, rock and country music. Jonathan Richman is another hero. But recently I have also been listening to more instrumental music: various soundtracks and minimalist, accessible stuff by Ludovico Einaudi and Phillip Glass. So that’s been an influence on this music….I am working on a solo album of song songs but I will always enjoy listening to and making this kind of music too.'
