There's a bit of a buzz around the new MGMT album, not least because the Congratulations album has been produced Sonic Boom. So ahead of the release (12th April in the Columbia label), here's a track off it - Flash Delirium.
Enjoy - and hopefully we'll have a review of the long player sometime soon.
Jon Spencer, remember him? Yep, the Blues Explosion guy. Well, he's teamed up with partner Christina Martinez (Boss Hog) and Dutch electronic heroine Elisabeth Esselink to produce Amsterdam Throwdown, King Street Showdown under the less-than-catchy title Solex vs. Cristina Martinez + Jon Spencer. Judging by the first track released, it might be worth digging out.
Released on the Bronzerat label on 5th April 2010, it promises a mix of old school clunk gee-tar and new school weirdness. Perfect for a throwback sci-fi flick soundtrack.
But don't take our word for it. Check out a track at Tripwire, which has the online exclusive on Galaxy. Or if you want to take a risk, the album is available now for pre-order, CD going for just £6.99.
Saint Etienne has been knocking out the reissues over the last 12 months, with Tiger Bay and Finisterre the latest to get the reissue treatment, both available from 3rd May 2010.
Tiger Bay (a top 10 album when it first appeared) comes with a second disc of rarities which includes an abandoned sequel to Mario's Cafe called Black Horse Latitudes. Finisterre is also remastered and also features unreleased material including the Dr Who-sampling There There My Brigadier, if that's your bag.
If you fancy a rare night at the flicks, make sure it's Wednesday 19th May, when the Flipside and the BFI screen The Season of the Witch in London.
A Donovan song covered by Julie Driscoll and Brian Auger - and it's the latter pairing that feature in this former Wednesday play. The Seaso of the Witch is a rarely-seen, location-shot BBC piece, with Julie Driscoll playing Meredith, dropping out of the automated world of the typing pool and heading off on a quest for 'good vibes and personal freedom' - ending up in the underground haunts and clubs of Brighton, as well as hooking up with hobos Jake and Shaun (Paul Nicholas and Robert Powell). Music of course, is by Brian Auger.
Also showing at the NFT1 on the same bill is some footage of Brian and Julie onm both Top of the Pops and Frist on Sunday. Tickets presumably on sale soon - get in touch with them for more details. In the meantime, enjoy this video of the song below.
The Cure, the band everyone has a soft spot for, but no-one admits liking, reissue one of their finest hours as a deluxe package soon - Disintegration.
Not quite a 20-year anniversary issue as it came out in 1989, the new version will offer up previously-unreleased songs, demos and outtakes, a live take on the album and a remastered original. If that's not enough, there's also a 20-page booklet about the album from Robert Smith himself.
May 24th is the release date - full tracklistings over the page.
