Technics 1200/1210s RIP
News has emerged that iconic turntable manufacturers Technics will be stopping production of Technics 1200s and Technics 1210s.
In a statement, Panasonic (the company behind the production of the Technics turntables) announced that they would cease the manufacture of Technics turntables in February next year, citing an increasing decline in sales as the motivation behind the line’s demise.
“It is a sad day today but due to low sales globally in analogue turntables a decision to stop production has been made on Technics Turntables,” Panasonic spokesman Ian North explained.
30 years in the game without real challenger, Technics now looks to be falling to the sword of the rampaging digital swarm.
Dance DJs, who kept turntables in currency are now favouring CDJs and, *gulp* laptops.
Obviously, Technics turntables will continue to be used in purists clubs and, invariably, soul nights (where having the original is king), however, this is still rubbish news. It looks like we could be losing the mighty club deck.

A lot of soul nights seem to favor DJ systems as old as the records themselves - the only time you seem to get Technics is on the occasions when they're in a club that has them already.
Shame they're pulling out of the game - no doubt, just before everyone gets sick of the new synth-pop, and turntables become the new Korgs, just as Korgs were the new guitars.

Technics are NOT discontinuing these turntables, apparently:
