Vivian Girls Vs Richard Nixon's Dog, Checkers
Hello. I'm Richard Nixon's dog, Checkers. You might remember me from such landmark political speeches as Nixon's televised 'Checkers' speech in 1952, and the less celebrated 'Hey, Pat, could you pick up some Pedigree Chum from the store for Checkers while you're out' speech from August 1957. I am of course now buried at the Bide-A-Wee Pet Cemetery in Wantagh, Long Island, having barked my last in 1964. Today I'm here to tell you all about Vivian Girls, a hip underground all-female three-piece rock combo from New York, who combine the grooviest elements of Goo-era Sonic Youth, tough girl-group garage acts like The Luv'd Ones, dreamy early Ride style shoegaze and Shop Assistant-y C86 indie-pop. They have a very cool self-titled LP OUT NOW. Pop over the page to watch them 'in action'. (Fuzz)
