« Liam Gallagher to make a solo LP? | Main | Lessons learned from Madonna and Vampiric Pop »

Wanna hear the best thing since sliced shit? Alan McGee reckons he knows...

Thegrants ...and I don't.

Alan McGee, bless 'im. Been gettin' it wrong since the mid '90s. Sure, he gave me some of my fave Brit records ever, in My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Super Furry Animals... but that Kevin Rowland LP stunk like a week-old nappy and Oasis... well... I never got that.

Anyway, he's got a new tip for the toppermost of the poppermost and they're called The Grants. You can only hope they've gone all Ramone and they've replaced their real forenames for 'Grant'. Hopefully, they've replaced their surnames for 'Ramone' too. Anyway, you can hear their mawkish, sounds a bit like huge indie failures The Unbelieveable Truth or likewise, Strangelove, indie pop here. Be warned, the first one sounds like 'Sitting Down Here' by Lene Marlin (you'll know it when you hear it). "Best unsigned band in the world" apparently.

I've been following McGee's comments this year. Whilst he was "plugging" The Charlatans excellent "You Cross My Path" insisting record companies were a thing of a past and bands don't need them, why not but your own records out for free on the internet?

Ok, so why does he continue to plug the Grants on his MYSPACE week in week out as the best unsigned band?

In The Grants defence, compared to some of the drivel out there they certainly have a future
