Electric Roulette Heroes: Oliver Postgate
Not strictly pop music related, but undoubtedly worthy of a respectful nod here anyways. News of Oliver Postgate's passing was greeted with genuine sadness here at Electric Roulette, as it will be across the country. His politics were right-on, he was a heck of a writer, he narrated that Radio 2 documentary a few years back about the BBC Radiophonic Workshop...and he created a handful of the greatest British television programmes of all time. In a disused cowshed. For no money. Bagpuss, The Clangers, Noggin The Nog...these are essentially folk-television programmes, the lo-fi televisual equivalent of Vashti Bunyon or Susan Christie. If you find nothing to love about these...works of art...then you may as well just give up now. No doubt at some point one of us will write a much more comprehensive round-up of Postgate's work and the music thereof, but for now, we shall simply say goodbye to a true hero, and thank him for so many wonderful memories.
