Just when you wondered where all the good times had gone, Motorhead came along to play some japes!
Austere, straight-faced, deadly into like, the music maaan... rock 'n' roll, for the most part, has lost its sense of fun. I mean, seeing some git at a pianner preachin' 'bout The World... I paid £20 for this and you're makin' me feel guilty? Gimme a break!
Fact is, the only people I see havin' fun are The Flaming Lips and some local bands no-one ever heard of (including pants falling down mid-set, drunkenly wandering off not knowing where they are etc...)... so what have Motorhead gotta do with anything? See this horse? Well...
Fact is, when a band gets to a certain stage in their career, they tend to go more conservative... or, in some cases, more Conservative. Really, when you've already paid yer dues and built up a loyal fanbase, that's the time you should start taking the piss. Thank the stars that Motorhead understand this.
During their recent tour, Lemmy & Co decided to play a few jokes on the support acts... as well generally pissin' about. The image above shows The 'Head's Phil Campbell in dress, blue wig and shades, riding a horse across the stage. Why? For shitsandgiggles. There's also puerile sniggering (an underrated pastime if y'ask me) to be had, as shown in the snaps of Senor Mikkey Dee in costume with moustache and toy burro, Lemmy cleaning up with a Sheik get-up... but best of all...
Just before Heaven and Hell's set, Motorhead passed out newspapers to everyone in the first five rows, so Heaven and Hell came out to RAWK, the crowd nonchalantly picked up the daily news and ignored 'em! Whaddahoot! If you wanna see the snaps, click here.
