...buying back what you once gave away (Or: Weird comp' due from David Bowie)

1965_davidbowie David Bowie, remember him? Funny eye, warbly voice? Well, he's gonna release a compilation of his own favourite tracks, which he hand-selected earlier this year. Get that? Hand-selected... as opposed to Machine-selected. This comp' is organic! Macrobiotic! Free range! Hand reared!

Anyway, this compilation was originally given away with the 'Mail On Sunday' in June. Remember that? 'iSELECT: BOWIE'. Where would we be without the lower case 'i'. It's the foundation of the post millenium jizz.

This comp' is now going to be released through Virgin/EMI on October 14th. It's no ordinary 'Greatest Hits' though. It's 12 tracks that straddle Bowie's career, which he said he "never seems to tire of", as well as two tracks exclusive.

The collection also includes Bowie's notes about the songs, which, presumably like the selection process, were at some point, written by Bowie himself! Wowzers! BESPOKE!

Speaking about 'Lady Grinning Soul', he said, “It was written for a wonderful young girl whom I’ve not seen for more than 30 years. When I hear this song she’s still in her 20s, of course. A song will put you tantalizingly close to the past, so close that you can almost reach out and touch it. The sound of ghosts again.”

What's on it then?

Life On Mars?
Sweet Thing/Candidate/Sweet Thing
The Bewlay Brothers
Lady Grinning Soul
Win
Some Are
Teenage Wildlife
Repetition
Fantastic Voyage
Loving The Alien
Time Will Crawl
Hang On To Yourself

Here's a video to tide you over and, if you read that tracklisting aloud, you'll sound like Jim Morrison in a breakdown bit of a late Doors LP.
