Lalo Schifrin's 'Bullitt'

Lalo Here at Electric Roulette we don't have to work hard at coming off like a bunch of clueless chancers who never had a bullshit half-baked opinion we didn't think the whole world wouldn't be fascinated to read about on our jumped-up, Creem Magazine-wannabe music blog, 'cos that shit just comes naturally to us, you dig? What I'm trying to say is, we never claim to be experts. We're just fans. Enthusiasts. We don't have the whole story and we've never pretend to. We haven't heard every great record ever made. You've probably heard more than we have. Infact, collectively, you, the readership of this blog, have certainly heard more records then we have, so you got us licked on that one. I'm still discovering really cool records that have probably been favourites of yours for years. Like, I just heard the 'Bullitt' soundtrack...FOR THE FIRST TIME! I'm 28 years old! And I just heard it! Bet you heard it before you could walk, huh?

Anyway, I knew the main theme from that car advert a few years back, but that was all. I've been missing out. If you don't already own it, go and buy this album now. I'm not kidding. I never knew how great this soundtack was. Not just hip crime-score jazz, but flute, trippy guitar, loadsa fonky double bass and plenty of bubbling boogaloo. It's really just a very cool instrumental LP, the equal of Schifrin's sizzling fuzz-funk 'Dirty Harry' score. Apparently you want the proper 1968 OST version and not the lame-ass re-recorded stuff you get on mosta the CD reissues. But then you knew that already, didn't you? Man you guys are smart. Enjoy this very famous, obscenely cool clip from 'Bullitt', then go buy the LP if you don't already got it, then go home and stick the LP on and pour yourself a large Martini. Because that just makes good sense. (Paul Fuzz)
