Ch-blau! Slick Rick pardoned (or How I tried to write a human interest story about hip hop)

Slickrick Y'all know Slick Rick right? He was a tagteam for a while with the incredible Doug E Fresh. Well, after getting a bit trigger happy, Slick Rick turned his life around and got himself all goodly. Now, he's down with the judge.

Rick has received a full pardon from New York Governor David A. Paterson for attempted murder and weapon charges in the '90s. Slick Ricky Walters, served six years in the clink  for the non-fatal shooting of his cousin and a bystander. Walter’s cousin had previously threatened him and reportedly had arranged to have him killed. Rough.

Rick had an exemplary disciplinary record in prison and since getting out, has been living peacefully in his Bronx community for over 10 years. Not only that, but he's volunteered to educate youth against violence and serves as a community leader for delinquent teens.

He faces deportation because of his weapons offenses, and was forced to seek pardon in order to remain in the US where he has many family members including two teenage children. He was born in the UK, but became a resident of the US at aged 11. Even after receiving the pardon, Walters will still have to seek discretionary relief from deportation from the immigration court.

Anyway, you're here for tunes I guess... so here's Slick Rick tellin' tales like only he knows how.

Comments

The development process has changed and a lot of networks are moving towards more of a year-round pilot season, but things are getting back to normal. There are spec sales every week, but you know, there are new realities. New media is here to stay and the disconnect to TV is growing. People are obviously watching more on the Internet. But it’s going to be a few years before a new broadcast model is really figured out – and even then, it’ll probably still be changing.
