Martha Wainwright hooks up with The Band, Steely Dan and The Who
Martha Wainwright's new studio LP, 'I Know You’re Married But I’ve Got Feelings Too' has got a distinctly mid-seventies feel to it. Why? Well, she's called on the help of The Who's Pete Townshend, The Band's Garth Hudson and Steely Dan's Donald Fagen. Seriously. The resurgence of singer songwritery starts here.
Wainwright comes from the biggest musical family since The Jacksons, so she's roped brother Rufus in, as well as mum Kate McGarrigle, aunt Anna McGarrigle and cousin Lily Lanken. Wainwright says of the new album: "The title sums up my dark humour. Plus it's an homage to a few good men and women that I've loved at one time or another. After all, these people never go away. You end up loving them for life.”
Martha Wainwright is set to play some shows in the UK in May, backed by her full band. Catch them at: London Royal Festival Hall (May 19) Glasgow Royal Concert Hall (23) Birmingham Symphony Hall (24) Manchester Bridgewater Hall (25) Official Site.
